Until 2017, Europe will experience fast development of smart energy meters

Development of smart energy meters takes place mainly in Denmark, Finland and Norway. The mass deployment, however, is considered for example in the UK, France, Spain and Portugal, who want to meet energy and environmental goals set by the European Union. The market for smart meters in Europe is saturated only in Sweden and Italy.

Frost & Sullivan has published its new analysis, according to which the smart meter revenue in Europe is expected to grow from $318.4 million in 2010 to $1.93 billion in 2017. The number of smart meters in Europe should increase from 43.9 million in 2010 to 200.43 million in 2017. Faster growth should occur after 2012, when mandatory standard will be published that will influence future development and innovation of smart meters.
