Siemens introduced the longest wind turbine blade in the world

On the second prototype of Siemens 6MW offshore wind turbine, B75 Quantum 75 meter long rotor blades will be installed, which is said to be the longest blades in the world. The prototype will be erected in 2012 in Østerild test station in Denmark. New blades are very durable and also light. If they were produced by traditional technology, they would be about 25 to 50% heavier. Heavier blades suffer from higher loads and need stronger nacelles, towers and foundations. Latest Siemens turbine has an output of 6MW, 154 m rotor diameter and a swept area of 18,600 square meters.

Siemens produces rotor blades in one piece without any glued joints using its patented IntegralBlade technology. Through this process, blades are more durable, which significantly improves the cost efficiency of wind turbines.
