ABB to Deliver World's First 1,100 kV UHVDC Power Link to China

ABB has won over USD 300 million worth orders to supply the world’s first 1,100 kV UHVDC (Ultra-High-Voltage Direct Current) transmission link which will be able to transmit 12 gigawatts of electricity over three thousand kilometres. The Changji-Guquan UHVDC link will set a new world record in terms of voltage level, transmission capacity and distance.

ABB will supply advanced converter transformers including bushings and tap changers. ABB scope of supply will also consist of the HVDC converter valves, DC circuit breakers, wall bushings and capacitors. ABB will provide system design support. The transformers will meet the most stringent performance, reliability and safety standards. Each transformer weighs 800 tons, measuring 32 meters in length. ABB has state-of-the-art transformer manufacturing and testing facility in Chongqing, which will take part in the project.
