Synchronisation of the Baltic States' electricity network with the European system

On 22 March 2018, government officials of the Baltic States and of Poland met in Brussels with President Jean-Claude Juncker. During their meeting, they expressed strong commitment of their governments to synchronising the Baltic States' electricity grid with the continental European System by 2025.

The government officials of the Baltic States and of Poland welcomed the good progress of the preparatory work, conducted by individual governments, system operators, experts and representatives of the European Union. They also called for utmost efforts of all involved parties. By this summer, a political agreement on the preferred way of synchronising the Baltic States with the continental European network should be concluded.

Synchronization of the Baltic states is one of the most emblematic projects of the Energy Union. It represents major contribution to the unity and energy security of the European Union. According to the politicians, 2018 will be a decisive year. Utilization of the Connecting Europe Facility funds will be crucial in order to successfully realise the project.
