On 1 October 2019, the European Commission (EC) adopted new eco-design measures for household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers and televisions. Improved energy efficiency is just one of the requirements. For the first time, the EC specifies requirements for repairability and recyclability. According to the Commission, these measures can save European households on average €150 per year, and help the EU reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
