A consortium of companies Areva GmbH, Areva NP SAS and Siemens AG began the construction of Olkiluoto 3 NPP in 2005. The completion of the unit was originally scheduled for 2009. The project has, however, had various delays. Before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, fuel loading into the reactor was scheduled for June this year. The supplier consortium has now informed the Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) there will be a nine-month delay in loading fuel into the reactor and an eleven-month delay in grid connection. Fuel loading is now scheduled for March 2021, grid connection for October 2021 and the start of commercial operations for February 2022.
