German grid operators will need billions of EUR for green energy support next year

Germany's top four high-voltage energy transmission system operators (TSOs) require 17.03 billion euros from the national budget next year to finance green electricity subsidies. From 2025, a German renewable energy surcharge will be entirely funded by the federal budget to alleviate the impact of high prices on businesses and consumers. This change, after partially funding the surcharge through a special fund for years, increases the financial load on the budget.
