More than half of Indian population were affected Tuesday after a massive power outage hit the country for the second day in a row. The northern and eastern grids failed in the afternoon. Blackout was in the national capital Delhi as well. The two grids serve more than half of India's 1.2 billion people. All trains originating from Delhi have come to a halt and there was complete chaos on the road as traffic signals did not work. Delhi Police deployed over 4,000 cops to man road traffic. Hospitals were also affected by the outage.
On Monday, India’s northern states were hit by the worst power outage since 2001. The outage affected more than 300 million people. At least 200 trains were delayed due to the blackout. The Indian capital was seriously hit. Delhi generates less than 20 percent of its own power requirement and is dependant on energy supply from the Northern Grid.
