Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract for HV submarine cabel between Europe and Asia

Turkish electricity transmission utility TEIAS has awarded a contract to Prysmian Group worth a total of €67 million for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a high-voltage submarine power cable link to connect Europe and Asia across the Dardanelles strait in Turkey. Once completed, the link will be the first high-voltage submarine power cable link ever in Turkey.

The link comprises a double AC power transmission circuit of approximately 4 km with a rating of 1000 MW for each circuit between the substations of Lapseki (on the Asian side) and Sütlüce (on the European side).

The 380 kV XLPE insulated cables will be manufactured in Prysmian’s production units in Europe. Installation will be carried out by the Group’s cableship Giulio Verne. Commissioning of the interconnection is scheduled for the second half of 2014.
