The European Commission called on Member States to step up their efforts to transpose and implement the existing EU internal energy market rules. The Commission will work with Member States to empower consumers and to reduce state interventions which distort markets.
To complete the EU internal energy market by 2014 the Commission foresees several actions. They include:
- Implementing internal market law and enforcing competition rules;
- Empowering consumers;
- Ensuring flexible market design.
In addition, the Commission will propose guidelines on support schemes for renewables that will enhance the effectiveness of the internal market.
