GenCell fuel cell technology deployed in California

San Diego Gas & Electric in California has started to install 30 GenCell G5rx fuel cell systems at its substations. The fuel cells are produced by Israeli firm GenCell. SDG&E tries to become the cleanest and most reliable energy company in the US.

In case of a blackout, the alkaline fuel cells will enable the substations equipped with the GenCell G5rx technology to keep the breakers and controls in an operational mode.

The GenCell G5rx will automatically charge the substation backup batteries and keep them at full power for up to 10 times longer (for 40 h or more) than normal battery rooms, allowing SDG&E to faster restore power to its customers.

GenCell has recently successfully deployed several of its innovative 5 kW GenCell G5 fuel cell backup power solutions in Israel and in the Latin American telecom sector.

GenCell G5rx fuel cells use the proprietary Network Operations Center system (NOC) allowing for remote monitoring, analysis and maintenance. The GenCell G5rx technology is, therefore, an ideal replacement for high-maintenance diesel generators.
