Hydrogen production using artificial enzymes in photosynthetic cells

In a new article, published in the journal Energy and Environmental Science, researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden describe a completely new method which inserts artificial hydrogen-producing enzymes into the metabolism of living cells. If the enzymes are inserted into photosynthetic microorganisms, hydrogen is actually produced from the captured solar energy. An interdisciplinary team of European researchers has developed the method under the leadership of Uppsala University scientists.
