In March 2018, the European Council asked the European Commission (EC) to create a strategic vision of a prosperous, modern, competitive and climate neutral economy by 2050. The EC has now approved a strategy called “A Clean Planet for all”. The aim of this long-term strategy is not to define targets, but to create a vision and give an impulse to further development in this area. According to the European commission, it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensure prosperity of the economy and create high-quality local jobs. Europe should reduce fossil fuel imports, use low-emission vehicles, and increase the capacity and utilization of the railway network. The transition to the new type of economy should be organized in such a way that all Europeans and EU regions benefit from it.
