New EU financing mechanism to support renewable energy projects

EU Member States are committed to meeting national targets for the share of energy coming from renewables by 2020. Member States have so far primarily deployed renewables in their own countries based on national measures. However, there is also an option for using cooperation mechanisms with other Member States such as statistical transfers or joint projects. The European Commission has proposed a new financing mechanism which offers a third possibility.
