What exactly is talent management - a static model, or rather a living organism? How to convince management that talent management is needed? Can its benefits be measured? How to motivate managers to select the right candidates? These are the main issues that people attending The Talent Management module at this year´s HR živě had in mind when joining this group. Andrea Nováková, HR Manager, DHL Supply Chain CR came to share her experience. Discussion facilitator was Zdenek Fibich, Director of Cadet Go, who works closely with DHL on their talent management program.
The outcome of this module was a clear definition of a talent as someone who
-
Has the potential in connection with the company strategy.
-
Has a positive approach to learning, is creative.
-
Is committed.
The need to communicate talent management and its benefits throughout the company was stressed many times. It turned out that unless a company is ready for it and accepts talent management as part of its corporate culture, it is unlikely to succeed. The need of top managements support is necessary. Only then can the program be communicated further down the line and lower level managers can be educated on how to select the right candidates.
The present HR managers agreed that talent management helps achieve several different objectives, such as reducing the cost of recruitment, succession issues, need for specific knowledge at certain managerial positions, improving the overall quality of management, and employee motivation issues.
HR Live discussion meeting was held on 22 November 2011 in Prague. It was organized by Czech educational and advisory portal EduCity in cooperation with educational companies Image Lab, Cadet Go and Interquality and educational center of Hewlett-Packard. The eighteenth live event was called "HR for Business" and met its goal of a professional conference where all the participants are speaking. Four morning and four afternoon discussion blocks were prepared. Eight to ten HR managers were discussing the topics of talent management, internal training and coaching, systems of remuneration and HR business partnership in separate conference rooms.
