A quarter of the 53 percent of Czechs who have access to the Internet at work connects to social networks during working hours. 14 percent of them are browsing the social networking sites mainly for private reasons. These are findings of a survey for KPMG Czech Republic, realized by Ipsos in December 2011. The survey was conducted by online interviews on a representative sample of 1,000 respondents aged 18 to 65 years.
"May global companies have been solving the issue of limiting access to social networks and, recently, the human resources departments of Czech companies are beginning as well," said Jan Martinek, Partner of KPMG Czech Republic in a press release. "The survey results show that the time spent on Facebook and other social networking sites during working hours can mean substantial losses for the employers in the Czech Republic."
Most Czechs who have access to the Internet at work spend less than one hour a day on social networks. "Interesting data have also come from the December survey by the global network of KPMG conducted in 31 countries on five continents called The Converged Lifestyle. The vast majority (86 percent) of the 9,600 respondents actively spend their time on social networks, nearly half (49 percent) at least an hour a day," compares Jan Martinek, adding: "It is interesting that three-quarters of respondents from around the world access social network from computers. From this we can conclude that they rather do it at work or at school than in their free time. "
