More and more companies are passing through the transformation of HR when HR managers are becoming HR business partners. Besides the new organizational chart and description of the news roles, they do, however, not always receive adequate training or coaching to well understand the new roles. HR Development Blog therefore came up with three key prerequisites for successful performance in the role of HR business partner.
1. Understand how your company makes money
If you are to be partners of managers, you must speak their language. Watching the reports from senior management briefings to financial markets and investors will help you. Then you will need to find what you must know to understand the performance of the business unit you are partner of - its projects, people, etc. Ask the unit's manager for financial tutorial to the unit - what measures are used to evaluate performance and how these measures fit into the whole organization. You should also want to see regular financial reports.
2. Become a true business partner
Feel each question, comment or problem as an opportunity to prove the value of your role as a partner. Participate in team meetings and listen well. Monitor trends in requirements for talent in your business. Meet also regularly with your colleagues who support similar parts of the business.
3. Collect feedback on your style
Actively ask for feedback to see what you can improve. Choose a few people with whom you work regularly and you can believe them. Then ask for honesty. Ask what you are doing well and what you should improve. Inquire sbout specific examples of behavior.
