Make your Human Resources more human

What to do when you begin to feel in your HR department like in a cage where you are bombarded with papers, employees' problems and managers' complaints ? BLR.com advises to make your Human Resources "more human". Try the following practical tips on how to get closer to the people in your organization.

  1. Adjust the working hours of your HR department so that you are regularly available even for the employees working flexibly. Then let these employees know when they can visit you.

  2. Have a lunch or a coffee among employees in the canteen at least several times a week. Talk to them and remind that you are available to them.

  3. Regularly visit each department, for example during their team meetings. Arrange the topics the departments representatives will want to talk to you about in advance.

  4. Meet managers of the individual departments regulary, too, and talk with them about their needs and the ways you can help them.

  5. Educate individual HR professionals in different areas of HR. You should not have a team of specialists fosused on narrow issues who cannot answer broader questions from their field.

  6. Integrate each new employee into your onboarding program immediately after he/she is hired. Do not wait until you hire more new employees within a longer period.

  7. Participate in informal meetings with representatives of all department whether it's a drink somewhere outside after work or a birthday party in the office.

HR professionals should try to make true friends at all levels of the company who will not be afraid to inform them about what is really going on in the company.
