HR business partner: More partner than HR

The “HR Business Partner” position has recently appeared on the business cards of many HR professionals. Of course a mere change of the job title is not enough for an HR professional to become a true partner for her company. The five following prerequisites for performing the HR Business Partner position successfully were published by TLNT.com.

1. They know their business

HR business partners must have in-depth knowledge of their company’s business. They must also know the business from the perspective of the person or team they are supporting.

2. They welcome new things

HR business partners should be open to new things and ideas. They do not rely only on their experience, they are willing to learn. When they make a mistake, they learn their lesson and do not allow themselves to be discouraged.

3. They help to manage risks

HR business partners understand the risks of the business. They also understand that it is not their job to eliminate the risks. Instead, their job is to help their partners in company management achieve excellence in spite of the risks.

4. They don’t say: “I told you so…”

HR business partners do not blame managers for bad decisions. Of course they state their opinion before the definite decision is made, but as soon as a decision about something is made, they accept responsibility for their participation in the given decision.

5. They are more partner than HR

HR business partners offer support not just in HR matters, but through all the skills they have.
