Are you tired of reading only about what HR professionals should stop doing if they want to be successful and help their employers? Then let's look at your job from the other, positive side. Allow yourself to be inspired by the following tips concerning what you should focus on. These tips originally appeared on the British HR Magazine website and were authored by Professor of Organisational Psychology at Bath University, Rob Briner.
Look for problems
If you want to come up with solutions, you must first clearly identify the problems your solutions will help to remove. Only this order of steps is worth the investment of your time and energy.
Consider multiple solutions
HR is not a simple equation with only one correct solution. Try, therefore, to focus more on different ways to do what you want to achieve. Search for what will move you as close as possible to success.
Work with the information you need
There is a lot of talk in current HR about big data and all sorts of analytics. However, start simply and use common sense. Focus on tools that will allow you to work with the data you actually need. Demand information systems which will be developed according to your needs.
Enjoy doing even the "boring" stuff
Truly effective work is not just fun and exciting. It's a long process of steps that will not bring immediate satisfaction or results. This is true in HR as well as in most other professions.
