At the end of 2012, women accounted for 4% of executive board members and 12.9% of the members of supervisory boards in the 200 largest German companies. That is a year-on-year increase of just one percent in both the cases. As far as the executive boards of the prestigious DAX 30 index companies, however, women represented 7.8%, which represents an annual increase of 4.1%. The supervisory boards of the DAX 30 companies, women accounted for 19.4% of the members, i.e. 3.7% more than in 2011. That is according to the study entitled Managerinnen-Barometer 2013 prepared by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW).
In companies the shares of which are owned by the state and the most of which are smaller than the DAX 30 companies or the top 200 companies, women are represented by 11.2% on executive boards and by 19.9% on supervisory boards. Within Europe, Germany is ranked sixth regarding the issue of women representation in senior management of publicly traded companies.
