Recommendations play a pivotal role in the professional appearance of LinkedIn profiles and the reputation of their holders. That is why LinkedIn has launched a new functionality called Endorsements which aims to facilitate mutual recommendations of skills and abilities among its users. Endorsements enable users to recommend one or multiple skills another user states in his profile by just one click. It is easier and faster than the (up to now) only possible way to write recommendations in your own words.
Recommending by Endorsements generally works on the basis of "liking" on Facebook. A user visiting another user's profile can see a list of skills of the user which can be recommended at the top of the page. He can just click on the particular skill and his recommendations will be automatically displayed in the profile's "Skills and Expertise" section. He can also recommend other skills that could be added to the profile.
Endorsments are currently available only in English in the U.S., India, Australia and New Zealand. For other countries and languages, the function will be made available in the coming weeks. For illustration, visit a short presentation of Endorsments published by Linkedin on the Slideshare website here: Introducing LinkedIn Endorsements.
