A profile on the LinkedIn social network is used to present your professional achievements and experience in the online world. But just creating a profile is not enough, you need to learn how to work with it so that it benefits you in your field. The most frequent mistakes made on LinkedIn by professionals were listed bythe Forbes.com site. It also offers advice for correcting these mistakes.

You have no recommendations

Solution: If you want to appear more trustworthy, request a recommendation by at least 5 people with whom you have worked or are working.

You have too many recommendations at once

Solution: If you do not want to look like someone who is looking for work ostentatiously, request recommendations continuously, even if you are not looking for work at the moment.

You state false information

Solution: If you do not want to be found guilty of lying, and thereby lose your reputation in the field, simply do not lie.

You flirt

Solution: If you do not want to come across as a flirt, maintain a professional level of communication. If there is someone that you really find attractive, find another way.

You do not describe your work

Solution: If you want the visitors to your profile to understand what you do, do not limit yourself to merely describing your position as “specialist” or “manager”. Write out your experience in the Summary section.

You do not have a photograph in your profile

Solution: If you want to add a more personal appearance to your profile, as well as greater transparency and trustworthiness, upload a professional photograph of your face.

You do not state anything personal

Solution: If you do not wish to be perceived merely as dry professionals without a personal life, add your hobbies or awards and join the discussion groups around your personal interests.

You make big changes in your profile

Solution: If you do not want to be suspected of fabricating your résumé and accomplishments, make changes strategically, i.e., gradually.
