Middle management is a very difficult place for work. Whereas the subordinates complain that you put too much pressure on them, the superiors accuse you of not pushing the subordinates enough. So how can you find the right balance in the role of a middle manager? The US News server offered seven recommendations.

Do not forget to say “thank you”

Your team makes you what you are in the eyes of your superiors. That is why you need to maintain your team’s motivation by thanking them for good work.

Be accessible

Your people should know that they can come to you so that a smaller problem does not become a bigger one. Do not close the doors in front of them.

Do not avoid your responsibility for your subordinates

Complaining about your subordinates to your superiors only proves your managerial incompetence.

Do not ask your subordinates to do anything that you wouldn’t get your hands dirty doing

Managers should be role models and show their people that they stand behind their actions. They should not delegate anything that they themselves would not be willing to do.

Learn how to handle conflicts

Get prepared for handling conflicts among your team members. If you need to, arrange trainings in crisis management and negotiations for yourself.

Inspire morale

Build a positive culture in your team that is based on acknowledging your people’s everyday contributions. Teach them to take responsibility for positive interactions with colleagues.

Prepare your successor

Make finding your replacement easier for your superiors when you climb up the career ladder.
