10 steps to better leadership

It takes years to become a good leader. If you want to reduce this time at least a little bit, apply the following tips.

  1. Collect feedback about your leadership style and act accordingly.

  2. Be an example. Behave towards others as you’d want them to behave towards you.

  3. If possible, surround yourself with people who are better than you. That way you can learn from them.

  4. Do not blame anyone but yourself for your team’s mistakes.

  5. Correct your mistakes as quickly as possible. Don’t let your team suffer because of one member that you chose poorly.

  6. Invest into your people. Make sure they have the resources and trainings they need to perform at their best.

  7. Focus on your people’s strengths, not on their weaknesses.

  8. Don’t strive for everyone to like you. What’s important is that they respect you.

  9. Realize that your success depends on the success of your people.

  10. Find a mentor or coach to help you with your personal growth.
