How to survive a bad boss

Most people meet a bad boss during their careers. Losing energy by becoming angry or frustrated because of your boss does, however, not make any sense. Forbes.com therefore advises how to behave effectively in such a situation.

1. Look at your relationship as a business problem

Collect the data, analyze the situation, look for conflict points and create an action plan to remove the points. Try to be as specific as possible when describing the situation as well as when proposing solutions.

2. Minimize emotions

You can hardly communicate meaningfully, let alone negotiate, under the influence of turbulent emotions. Therefore,  work on how to reduce your emotions and perceive situations as clearly as possible.

3. Realize what role you play in the whole problem

Mistakes can usually be found on both sides. Ask yourself the difficult question of how you could contribute to the fact that your relationship developed as it developed. Maybe what your boss wants from you is not so unreasonable.

4. Search for what you have in common

Focus on the areas you can agree on and communicate about them. Only then start discussing the things you feel differently. Without an open dialogue, you will never find what you are looking at in the same way and differently.

5. Consider whether to leave at all

If you feel that you have already tried a lot and you still cannot get on with your boss, find another job. Look at your competition, ask your friends and you will see that possibilities exist. Your long-term dissatisfaction at work will not help either you or your employer.
