Many people must face the fact that even though they are not early birds they simply have to go to work in the morning. However, the start of your working day does not have to be unpleasant and non-productive only because you usually have the most of your vigour and energy after lunch. Marla Gottschalk an organisational psychologist pointed this out on the server US News. She also recommended the following tips for starting your working day in the right way; despite the fact that you are a night owl.
Find your personal morning ritual
Approach your daily routine literally in the same way you approach sport – warm up before going for the real performance. Make a plan of a morning ritual which will help you start your brain and which will suit you best. Some people listen to the music, some people read on their way to work, some people like a cup of strong coffee…
Prepare a pen and a sheet of paper
Even night owls might find out that they get many new ideas after they wake up. However, they soon loose energy to deal with them further. If this is your case, there is nothing easier than to write them down and return to them later.
Do not start your work by reading emails
Reading emails and listening to messages will not charge you with new energy. Identify an activity with the greatest added value and spend first half an hour on doing it. For instance, you may make a list of your targets or assess how to make your time more productive. Focus on how you can work more efficiently and start to carry out your ideas.
Make a positive gesture
If you want to feel better choose one of the people around you to whom you would like to thank or congratulate on some success. If you do this right in the morning, your day will be much nicer right away.
And the last piece of advice – try to get more sleep. Even one extra hour of sleep can do wonders.
