Don't start any major project before leaving
You will be busy enough organising everything else at work. Every reasonable boss will understand it would be better if you started working on any new issue after your return.
Tell colleagues you don't want to be disturbed on your vacation
Don't hesitate even to tell them you're not taking your mobile with you at all. Be assertive. If your boss calls you during the vacation and wants you to work, want it paid. The ideal solution is to ask a particular colleague in advance to take care of your duties.
Ask your family to check on you
Ask your loved ones constantly to remind you that you shouldn't be working. Agree, for example, on some penalties you will have to pay if you do start working.
Turn off your mobile phones and computers
If you want to take a notebook or tablet with you, turn off all alerts informing you about incoming e-mails from work. Set aside a specific time to turn these devices on. If you feel you might not resist the temptation to work, don't take your computer or tablet with you at all.
Don't remain passive
Don't sit for whole days in your hotel room surrounded by your electronic toys. Get outside and indulge in any leisure time activities which you enjoy.
