There are only 8% of women in the statutory bodies of the Czech top 100 companies. Most of them work in the health care sector and in the sector of telecommunications, transport and IT. That is according to an analysis of the Deloitte Corporate Governance Centre Czech Republic which monitors sales of top 20 companies in nine major business sectors in the country. The current average of women representation in top management of companies in the European Union is 13.6%.
The analysis found out that the difference between the average representation of women in corporate management in the Czech Republic (8%) and in the sector with the largest representation of women in management (health care) is very high. Women hold 24.2% of the seats in corporate management in health care. The second industry with the highest representation of women in top management is the sector of telecommunications, transport and IT (10%). The construction industry (6.7%) or the power industry (5.5%) sectors, where women are traditionally underrepresented, were not a surprise. More surprising, however, was the small representation of women in corporate management of banking companies (4.4%). In comparison with other countries, that is well below average.
