I need a change. Do you sometimes think this? And why not? You do not need to change companies. Instead, create your own working mission that will allow you a new kind of experience. More importantly, it will help you to gain more experinces for leadership development. The Leading Effectively website based on research from the Centre for Creative Leadership prepared five challenges to push you out of the comfort zone and force you to think and act differently.
1. Try a small change
Try to change your job role for a while. It does not matter whether you change the contents of your job, location or level of responsibility. It is important that you learn to control new obligations, not just continue with well-established routines.
2. Make a change in yourself
Work that requires quick decisions, creates ambiguity and uncertain situations not normally common to you will teach you something. Take responsibility for determining new directions and goals, face new challenges with employees and solve other "inherited" problems.
3. Request more responsibility
Tasks with a higher level of responsibility require a lot more effort, your actions at this level will have a greater impact and visibility. It is a good workout, to prove your qualities as a resilient leader.
4. Learn how to manage borders
Most leaders are used to controlling from the top down. Try making it a bit more difficult by working with the people over whom you have no formal or direct authority. What about your perceptions?
5. Work with diversity
For most organizations nowadays, diversity is quite often an established concept. Companies strive to work with this in the company cultural and organizational structures. This is not only a requirement on a global scale but even the domestic labour force is affected. This requires you learn how to manage and work with employees from different cultures, countries, ethnicities, races as well as with people of both genders.
