Improving your memory

The ability to memorize and recall vast amount of information is priceless. Fortunately, through practice, it is possible to enhance this capability. Sometimes it is enough to just change your lifestyle to a healthier one. But to get the best results, you need to do some more specific activities.

Here are some of the proposals aimed at memory training, Joe Brown, the CEO addicted2Success.com, posted on his website.

1. Healthy lifestyle

No doubt about it, one of the easiest and most effective ways of how to improve your memory is to make sure that you sleep enough. Sleep at least 6 hours a day and support that with a 30-minute nap during the day. Short exercise in the morning, three times a week is another natural way of boosting your memory, since it affects the activity of hippocampus.

2. Miracle called Mnemonics

Mnemonics help us to remember substantial list of words or facts, by organizing them into a structure. When the “data” is organized, it is much easier for us to recall. Mnemonic techniques are used to translate information into a form that is more natural for our brain to retain. When the “data” is processed, in a form different than the original, the brain recalls them much more easily.

3. Eat food that boost memory

Certain types of food such as colorful fruits and green leafy vegetables (kale or spinach to name just two), are recommended by Dr. Gary Small, the director of UCLA’s Memory Clinic. Another great food is blueberries, seen as an amazing source of anthocyanins, which is an antioxidant with positive impact on the brain.

You should also take some memory enhancing supplements. They support the growth of new neurons and fight substances that are harmful to brain functions. Vitamin B6, B12, C and D, fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids are some of these helpful supplements. You should consult your physician in order to find out how much of these you should take on a daily basis.

4. Be focused

Avoid various forms of multi-tasking. When you are not focused, your attention is blurred and your ability to remember is weakened. It should not be a problem, since you only need 8 seconds to remember a piece of data.
