Do you feel that you deserve a promotion, but it is still not coming? Are you doing something wrong? What more can you do or do differently? These questions, sooner or later, come to the mind of anyone who wants career advancement. Therefore, we summarized the practical tips from Laszlo Bock, Google's HR director and author of the book Work Rules!. In a recent article on LinkedIn, Laszlo Bock described the following five steps as a surefire way to get your dream promotion.

1. Get feedback

Speak to the person who is able to promote you - your boss. Ask him to recommend what you can do and follow his advice. Get  your boss to give you regular feedback on what you should improve. When you have met your agreed on goals, don't be afraid to remind you boss about your desire to be promoted. Ask your colleagues for their feedback too.

2. Solve you bosses' problems

Find out what the biggest problem your boss is currently dealing with. Then help him solve it. Coming up with new ideas is great, but it is better if you come with ideas to solve really important current problems.

3. Think ahead

Try to develop your skills not only for the possible promotion but also for any future job.  You never know what you will do in a few years. Especially if you feel stuck at one point, look for new opportunities. You  may not achieve a promotion but find an opportunity to try something new outside your current field. You will expand your options.

4. Ask for a promotion

Google employees can nominate themselves for promotions. Even if your company doesn't follow the same process, you should make it clear that you're interested in a promotion. Let the world know.

5. Consider leaving

If it is not realistic for you to be promoted and you can't do anything about it, start thinking about changing your employer. If they refuse three times even though you believe you deserve the promotion, leave. Find a place where you will be appreciated more. When writing your CV, avoid these errors.
