Reward top performers: it is not only about money

How to reward employees whose performance is above and beyond that of their peers? All that really matters is that you need to show how rewards come to those whose performance is exceptional. This promotes loyalty and appreciation, according to the expertbusinessadvice.com website.

It doesn’t have to be about money. A raise or a bonus are certainly pleasant but sometimes you can reward top performers even without cash. Praise them in front of others and do not hold back from personalised messages of appreciation. You might allow more flexible time schedules, offer gift vouchers or a better parking space. A special “thank you” e-mail with a copy sent to the whole company can also work well.

Exposure to others

An example of this would be entrusting the person to attend a conference in place of a senior manager. This would enable that person to acquire a better understanding of the company and induce a sense of pride since they were chosen to appear in a position above their actual pay scale.

Personal appreciation

Appreciation can take the form of vacations and leave days. Sometimes even a simple box of chocolates will do the job.  It pays to be inventive when selecting gifts for your staff. Gift cards and vouchers are handy, allowing people the freedom to choose their own reward – at least to some extent.

Praise, praise, praise

Send an e-mail to the whole company praising the person’s performance. You could also set up an employee of the month notice board. Always describe what the employee has done for the organisation.

Flexible time schedules

By allowing top performers to make slight changes to their time schedule, you are giving a reward without actually offering anything concrete.
