Job interviews at six in the morning

Selecting a new colleague for your team is not easy. Besides knowledge and skills, the person should also fit in. Their behaviour should match your needs too. There are many sophisticated recruitment methods able to assess candidates as personalities. Do you consider them too expensive? Then we have good news for you: there is quite a simple but efficient method everyone can afford.

An interesting tip was recently published on LinkedIn by entrepreneur and investor Mac Lackey. He recommends inviting selected candidates to job interviews over coffee at 6:30 a.m. This is not a usual meeting hour and if you are not an early riser, it may be very difficult for you to come fully prepared. Why did Lackley do this? He wanted to see the reactions and how candidates would handle uncomfortable situations.

"I am almost dead in the morning ..."

Some invited candidates cancelled the interview immediately. Some, on the contrary, arrived slightly earlier or at 6.30 sharp. Others came late and used the early hour as their excuse. Lackey focused on the first thing they would say after arriving. The reactions varied.

Candidates often mentioned the early hour and apologised for how they looked in the morning or for their late arrival. Others enthusiastically talked about being used to running early in the morning or everything they could get done while others were still asleep (they mostly exaggerated). The best candidates treated the morning interview as a challenge. They talked about what they had just learned about productivity in the morning.

Imagine an important client of yours moves an appointment to the early morning or late evening hours, or to a place that is completely unfamiliar to you. How would you like your employees to react in such a situation?
