Publication: The European economy since 2000

The European Statistical Office Eurostat has just released a new publication entitled The European economy since the start of the millennium – a statistical portrait. It is an interactive online publication that summarizes statistical data from the perspective of the economy, households, businesses and governments of the European Union, accompanied by practical visualizations.

In the publication, you can also test your knowledge of macroeconomic indicators or compare the income of your household with others in your country and Europe as a whole. The publication, which you can also download in pdf, is divided into four main parts:

  1. The overall economy - long-term macroeconomic trends, GDP, investment and consumption, trade, inflation, unemployment, working time patterns
  2. Households - household incomes and expenditures, housing market development
  3. Businesses - structure of businesses in the economy, investment, debt, profitability, a special section focused on the banking sector
  4. Government - government revenues and expenditures, public finance deficits, unemployment

The data contained in the publication cover the Member States of the European Union and, where possible, also the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries.
