Any gap between the world of modern technology and your organisation will disappear only if you manage to catch up with current requirements.

The previous article described what limits us. However, with determination, we can break through and use new ways of thinking and acting.

You need to create new collective mindsets which will translate into a sustainable competitive advantage for your company.

Adopt new ways of thinking

The hyperconnected world has accelerated the development of a new form of social organisation: the distributed peer-to-peer network. As a result of this, there are three new ways of thinking: networks, exponential thinking, and collective intelligence.

  • Networks are usually smarter and faster than hierarchies: the path to knowledge is much quicker as networks leverage the intelligence of everyone involved, not just a few elite persons at the top.
  • Exponential thinking is based on the fact that change is not incremental. Strategic planning can no longer be done by extrapolating historical trends into future projections, according to an article on the management-issues.com website. To take one example: IBM has learned its lesson and is now shifting its focus from services to artificial intelligence and blockchain. It recognises that the future will be very different from what we know today.
  • Collective intelligence is a concept that may appear counter-intuitive since intelligence is an individual phenomenon. However, the crowd is often more intelligent than any individual. So your company may want to use the untapped resource of the collective intelligence of employees and customers. You need to provide processes which will enable you to access this higher form of intelligence.
