Now you can finally edit the speech in a manner that makes it appropriate and convincing for the target audience.

Putting content together

What is it that you are going to say? Don’t worry too much at this stage about the actual length of your presentation. Start by brainstorming ideas for content. Bear in mind who will make up the audience and what outcome you are seeking to achieve.

So initially just generate a list of content ideas or topics you would like to include in your speech. Doing this will help guide you towards your aim of achieving the desired outcome.

Selecting and editing

The hard part is then selecting what content ideas actually to include in your speech. Once you have all the ideas you intend to go through, organise them into a logical sequence so that your presentation flows well. This advice comes from the presentationmagazine.com website.

Think of your speech as a route plan. Your presentation will take the audience on a journey. At the beginning, start by describing where they are now. Then set a course and take them where you need them to be. When you have reached that spot, your speech should finish.

Fine-tuning and additional editing

When you have the first draft, start rehearsing and find out how the speech can be improved. Focus on the flow, fluency of your language and timing. Edit the speech in such a way that you will not stumble over any of the words. Also check the allotted time to ensure the speech doesn’t take too long.

During the editing process, keep both audience and outcome in mind. Use relevant examples, and acknowledge and address the concerns the audience are likely to have.
