HR skills and procedures
Ensuring employees have access to quality personnel services is key to the long-term success of telework for your company. The HR team must therefore clearly communicate expectations and protocols with employees regarding distance work. Communication should include information on when employees need to be available, as well as on safety conditions and adaptation to the remote work environment. Likewise it is important remote workers be informed of all important details, such as where they can log in and check their data, including payslips or holidays.
Personnel departments working remotely must also regularly monitor the employee experience and regularly address employees through communication channels. Ongoing feedback is the most valuable thing you can obtain from people, as you can thus identify their moods and motivations in a timely manner and take action where necessary.
The distance nature of work will certainly place higher demands on HR workers, so it is important to consider whether it might be more appropriate to outsource certain types of personnel services and allow HR professionals to devote more time to important matters.
Technology
Shifting technology priorities in equipping domestic workers requires resources. Your IT staff will need to build an internal network infrastructure, handle secure remote access, and prepare the necessary programs for installation on home computers and other devices. In addition to well-functioning and safe home workplaces, remote workers also require quality tools for communication and collaboration. In order to prevent employees becoming too detached from their co-workers and managers, it is important to invest in communication tools.
Management skills
Leading people remotely is completely different from having your team up close and communicating with people in person. In addition, there is a great natural interplay between employees in the office environment, which positively affects their performance and creativity. But it doesn't work so well from a distance. You will need to change your approach to let employees organise their work themselves. You should encourage them to share and be transparent. There is no universal approach; success depends on using your intuition and ingenuity. Management must also assess whether all company managers can cope with a new way of leading people, or even whether they are capable of adjusting to the new conditions at all. Not every manager will be willing to adapt.
