Never ignore conflicts; instead, resolve them – even those beneath the surface
As Forbes notes, conflict resolution is one of the core responsibilities of any manager. And conflicts will come, sooner or later. However, not all conflicts are visible; many lurk beneath the surface. A good manager must be able to address both hidden conflicts and those which could potentially arise.
Set an example to subordinates
A manager must not preach water and drink wine. They have to set an example of what they want subordinates to do; otherwise, team members will see through them and not meet their demands and expectations.
Communicate effectively
The ability to set up good and effective communication is perhaps the most important characteristic of any leader. It is imperative the leader communicates effectively with subordinates, encourages communication within the team and is generally able to adapt to the specifics of another person when talking to them.
Motivate subordinates
Motivate team members over the long term, maintain their work ethic, and offer a realistic and supportive vision. These are quite complex tasks that every manager faces and must not forget about.
Be a mentor to the team also on the technical side
A manager should have the necessary hard skills that enable them to assist subordinates with specific tasks that lie ahead of them.
