Personal accountability

The first quality, which unfortunately many people lack, is personal accountability. A manager should not blame those around them for failures. They should be authentic in the sense of being able to admit to mistakes and their own lack of knowledge. If a manager is neither able nor willing to take responsibility for their actions and decisions, it will be very difficult for them to earn the trust of their team and colleagues.

Empathy

The ideal manager is no longer someone who views subordinates as mere robots, simply assigning one task after another. A manager should possess a high degree of tolerance and empathy, being able to put themselves in their employees’ shoes, understand their needs, and offer them as much flexibility as possible. With Generation Z entering the workforce, this approach is becoming even more crucial.

Willingness to work with modern technologies

In today’s world, those who do not keep up with modern trends risk being left behind and this is doubly true of managers. A conservative leader who resists the opportunities offered by modern technologies is essentially leading their team to failure. A manager should not perceive new technologies, particularly AI, as a threat but rather as an opportunity.

Ability to delegate work effectively

The days when leaders knew everything best are long gone. In most industries, frontline employees often have more specialised knowledge than their superiors. As a result, managers are increasingly taking on the role of coordinators. This, among other things, means that they must be able to delegate tasks efficiently and pass on responsibilities. Without this ability, no manager will get very far in today’s world.
