Mobile operator O2 is going to provide residents and visitors to central London boroughs of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea free access to the Internet via wi-fi connection.
Building the network begins this month in Wesminster where transmitters will be placed on lamps and other objects in the streets. London will thus gain the largest free wireless network in Europe during this year, BBC reported.
London will be put alongside the world's major cities like Paris or New York that already offer free wi-fi Internet access in parks or on subway stations. The service is intended mainly for foreign tourists. For residents using the Internet in their homes, it may be too slow.
