We all want to win, and get frustrated when we it doesn’t work out. We tell ourselves that we aren’t talented enough for our work, but we are; we only lack the right attitude and discipline. Craig Jarrow, an American consultant, publicist and author of bestseller Time Management Ninja, lists on his blog the most common reason why people are unable to achieve success. Which one applies to you?
You don’t believe in yourself
Self-confidence is an important prerequisite for success. If you don’t believe in yourself and constantly fear failure, then you probably will fail. Winners don’t let themselves be beaten by their fears.
You don’t know the rules of the game
Beginners always think that they can win without fully understanding what they hope to achieve, and end up making unnecessary mistakes.
You only try
Don’t try to do something – just do it. If you only keep testing things, you won’t achieve success.
You haven’t started properly
It’s difficult to bring to a successful conclusion something that you haven’t started. Dare to start something.
You’re holding yourself back
You’re not investing 100% of your energy in whatever you’re doing. Maybe you’re scared of ‘what people will say’. That’s not good.
You let yourself be influenced by doubters
People will tell you that you won’t succeed and will want you to fail. Don’t let yourself be discouraged. The best way to keep them quiet is to succeed.
You’re a perfectionist
Perfectionism stops you from completing things. You must realise that not everything can be perfect. Most of the time it’s enough to be good and sometimes just do something that that others don’t want to.
You’re too comfortable
If you want to succeed, you will have to do things that you haven’t done before, or which you’re not too keen on.
You want success for nothing
You must realise that every success comes at a price. This could be money, but also time and experience. You must decide whether you are prepared to pay this price.
