The most common myths about LinkedIn

LinkedIn, the social network for professionals, launched its existence in the living room of its founder Reid Hoffman in 2002. Since then it has acquired more than 175 millions users from the whole world. It also employs over 2,800 employees in five cities of the USA and in another 19 cities in the rest of the world. According to the latest statistics from the spring of this year, it has at least 250,000 users in the Czech Republic, mainly managers and businessmen.

These people mainly see LinkedIn as a place where they can do business and establish contacts with like-minded people, without regard for where they live. But generally there are still some myths that surround this social network. According to socialmediatoday.com, the following three are the biggest ones:

1. LinkedIn is a place for recruiters and job seekers

Of course recruiters and job seekers account for a lot of the activity here, but managers and specialists from the world’s leading companies also present themselves here equally well. For example, you will find executives from all companies on the Fortune 500 ranking of the largest American companies on here. Then there are tons of people here from larger or smaller companies who are not actively looking for a job at the moment. Their goal is being a part of the local or even global community in their field.

2. LinkedIn is used mainly by Americans

Over 60% of all LinkedIn users are not from the USA; they come from over 200 countries and regions of the world. More than 44 million users are from Europe. LinkedIn has been localized into 18 languages. So if you want to target managers and professionals from countries other than the USA, here’s your chance.

3. University graduates can be found on Facebook, not on LinkedIn

Actually, university graduates are the fastest growing demographic group on LinkedIn, as over 20 million students and graduates have set up their profile there.
