Learn from leading sports teams

A sports team is a very well led group of people who cooperate with one another. Learn something about leading them and then use the knowledge in your own working group. The salesforce.com server offers the following three propositions:

1) Real time feedback

Typically employees have an annual or quarterly review. How does it look in the world of sport? Sportsmen/-women obtain feedback immediately during training. Of course this does not mean you should sit all day with your staff and control them. But still it helps to receive feedback more regularly and consistently. Give positive, instructive and usable evaluations.

2) Root for one another

Members of a sports team support one another. If one player is successful, others are happy. This is not always the case at a workplace. Try to bring something from sporting enthusiasm to your team. On the other hand, if one sportsman/-woman makes a mistake, the others let them know about it. If a mistake occurs at work, we should learn from it and support one another.

3) You learn the most from a defeat

Do not forget defeats and try to learn as much as possible from them. In sports as well as at work, people make mistakes. Do not try to blame anyone. Consider mistakes an opportunity to learn something new. Analyse them and try to understand why they happened. Take action to ensure they will not happen again.
