LinkedIn Recommendations: Who to ask?

Recommendations on the social network LinkedIn will help you not only when finding a new job, but also to get new business opportunities. Based on these recommendations, a potential employer or client will find important references on the quality of your work and its results. Therefore, careerealism.com recently focused on whom you should address your requests for recommendations to. Focus on the following five people.

1. Satisfied customers

When a client of yours express appreciation for the results of work that you did for him, politely ask if he could write a LinkedIn recommendation for you. Then send him a recommendation request, but write it using your own words, not just copying the text that is automatically generated.

2. Team-mates

Talk to your colleagues who have been involved in a successful project with you. You may offer to write a recommendation for them too. Focus on your/their ability to work in a team, decision making, communication, and motivation.

3. Your current boss

Do not be afraid to reach out to your boss to recommend your current achievements on LinkedIn. It may help you get more contacts and potential clients.

4. Your former boss

If you have not left on bad terms, your request for a recommendation is relevant. A recommendation from your former boss will come in handy, especially when you are looking for a new job.

5. Representatives of non-profit organizations

If you are a member of a non-profit organization and actively participate e.g., in volunteer projects, ask a manager of the organization for a LinkedIn recommendation. Not only it will support your PR, but it will also show that you are interested in helping others.

Who has recommended you on LinkedIn? Who have you recommended?
