Being able to respond to criticism of is one of the basic leadership skills. The point is not to become too defensive when we are criticized unjustly and to appreciate criticism when it is justified. It requires courage and respect for several principles recently summed up on the PM Hut website. A positive attitude is a must. There are four important things you want to know regarding a critic - the source, accuracy, consequences, and your reaction. A positive attitude is, however, important in all cases.

Stick to your values

While the circumstances of your work may change, your values should remain the same. Think about what brought you to where you are today and approach your critics accordingly.

Do not throw mud

Try to avoid verbal battles that only harm you. Knowing the truth is on your side should be enough. Satisfaction from the fact that you can look yourself in the eye will make up for any argument. If you have done the right thing, it is not important how others behave.

Do not strike back

Feeling the need to take revenge on your critics may sometimes be really strong. In such moments, remind yourself that it would not make you any happier. Losing a battle is not so bad when you can go on and win a war.

Be successful

Many critics will criticize you only out of jealousy or as revenge. Do not lower yourself to their level. Continue doing your work and achieving success. Nothing will annoy them more.

Do not lose your sense of humor

Do not take everything seriously. Think over the legitimacy of each criticism and learn to laugh at others as well as yourself. A leader with a sense of humor is a good leader.
