5 habits of successful and creative people

Emotional intelligence expert Travis Bradberry has developed, in his own words, an “obsession with some of history’s most creative minds“. And because he was curious whether he could trace any general rules in the behavior of the most successful people that could help him in his own life, he studied the lives of innovative, successful and creative people, both from the present day and from history. He found out that the vast majority of these people share five habits which he published on the Forbes.com server.

1. Getting up early in the morning

Even though there are several honorary exceptions, the most successful, creative people are early birds. Benjamin Franklin, Howard Schultz and Ernest Hemingway are all known for getting up early. You can finish a lot of work early in the morning when most people are asleep and there is no one to disturb you.

2. Regular exercise

It is a proven fact that exercising regularly improves your mood, boosts your energy and increases productivity. This is why it is no wonder that top creative people and businessmen exercise.

3. A strict set of rules

Successful people are highly organized and they adhere to a strict schedule. They know what they are doing, when and why. There is no chaos in what they are doing. Proceeding according to a specific plan frees their minds and they can think creatively and innovatively.

4. More than one iron in the fire

To be able to be truly innovative and creative, you cannot have your whole livelihood dependent on the results of the one thing. It is better to have more projects so you are not completely dependent on just one activity. This form of dependency kills creativity.

5. Working anywhere possible

Many people tend to work at a place especially designated for working (such as an office), and they do not think at all about work when they are not there. However, the most successful people work at all times, such as when having a breakfast or going to or from work. Working does not necessarily mean physical activity, it may mean just thinking about a certain problem.
