Productivity boost: All you need is pencil, paper and these tips

Plan the course of your days in advance. With better organisation and planning, you will feel more competent because you will be working faster and more smoothly than you are now.

Do the following exercise: write down all the tasks you have to do today. Include the work-related activities as well as the personal ones, such as exercising or preparing a healthy dinner for yourself or your family. Next organise the list by asking yourself what you would do if you could finish only one single item on your list.

Now imagine that you may finish only two – and so on. The next step is to remain disciplined and always work only on the task that you currently have as your top priority. This means not working on item number 4 if you haven’t yet finished numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Don’t start off wrong: checking e-mail is not a priority

Don’t lose your concentration. Checking e-mail in the morning is not something Brian Tracy would recommend: in fact, the famous speaker and salesman would warn us against it.

Checking e-mail may seem innocent at first but suddenly you will find yourself replying and dealing with messages for several hours in a row. So focus rather on the list of your important tasks and open your inbox only after the important activities are finished.

Plan ahead

By making the list a day in advance, you will achieve true productivity. With a good plan, procrastination is not an issue for you. There is no more effective urge to get started than a good plan.

Personal planning is also a skill that separates successful people from the rest. By writing the list the preceding evening, you mentally prepare yourself actually to follow it.
