Find a mentor
The first item in the challenge is finding a mentor. Find someone who impresses you with their management skills and who can always give you good advice. Arrange regular meetings with them; just half an hour once a fortnight will do. You'll find that having someone to talk to and turn to for advice on management issues will in itself improve your management skills.
Learn at least one new thing about each of your subordinates
Another item in the challenge set by Business Insider is to find out at least one new, interesting thing about each of your subordinates during those 30 days. This will force you to get to know them even better and engage in conversation with each of them on a non-work related topic.
Create a six-month and annual vision for your team
Most teams lack a specific vision or plan. Yet it is the manager's job to create that vision and communicate it to their subordinates. Therefore, you should develop a six-month and one-year vision for your team.
Spend 10% of your time learning new things
Even managers have to educate themselves. They need to be interested in new trends, push themselves and learn, not only to acquire new skills but also to set an example for their subordinates in terms of continuous learning. So over the next 30 days, dedicate 10% of your time to your own learning and development.
Delegate some of your responsibilities to subordinates
In order to save yourself time, increase the efficiency of your team and allow your subordinates the opportunity to develop, you should delegate some of your competences to them. This step will be another item in your challenge for the next 30 days.
