Set clear goals

The Achilles heel of many teams is unclear goals, expectations and plans. In order to improve in this area, establish well-defined short-term and mid-term objectives. Also, clearly outline the steps necessary to achieve these goals.

Better define team members' roles

Vague role definitions and unclear responsibilities lead to unnecessary communication, friction, uncertainty and energy wasted on resolving misunderstandings and competency disputes. Clarify the functions of each team member, particularly at transition points where tasks, agendas or projects are handed over.

Eliminate ineffective meetings

Unnecessary meetings are a major obstacle to productivity. Review your calendar and reduce meetings to an absolute minimum. For those that remain, ensure only essential team members attend.

Implement daily stand-up meetings

Instead of lengthy, unproductive meetings, plan a stand-up format. Stand-up meetings are short, typically fifteen-minute gatherings commonly used in agile project management. The name stems from the fact they are so short that they can be conducted while standing in a shared office space. At these daily check-ins, briefly review priorities for the day, assign tasks, and quickly address the most pressing issues.
